Game 13 Wrap-Up: NYY 3 BOS 2

(Courtesy of the AP)

It didn't come without some stress and further infield injury problems, but I got the win I wanted last night.  The Yanks took the first series of the season with the Sawx last night, creeping back over .500 in the process and moving into a much needed first scheduled off day of the year.  The finer details of last night's affair can be found in the live blog from last night below.  After the jump, the notable players and their stat lines.

F*ck Yeahs:

- Carlos Beltran: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 LOB.  He even mixed in his first career game at first base to boot.  Beltran said he didn't feel right yet against lefties before the game.  Whatever he did against Felix Doubront to work out the bugs, my condolences to Doubront.

- Ivan Nova: 7.1 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K.  This was the Nova we saw in Spring Training, the Nova who could battle and work through innings even when his command was the best.  He struggled to locate his 4-seamer and 2-seamer early, but his command came around in the later innings and Nova gave the Yanks some very good length on a night where their bullpen was short again.

Oh Nos:

- Kelly Johnson: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K, 4 LOB.  Lotta ducks stuck on the pond when Kelly came to the plate last night.

- Injuries: Whatever happened to that new strength and conditioning coach and program that was going to help injury prevention?  The Yankees had no fewer than 3 infielders get hurt yesterday and 5 if you count Jeter getting an extra day off for his tight quad and McCann taking a ball off his right hand late in the game.

Next Up:

That off-day today and then it's off to Chicago staying right at home for 2 games with the Cubs on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Masahiro Tanaka returns to the hill on Tuesday.
